My Plan

When he saw his city struggling, he stepped up to run to mayor.

The Indiana Secretary of State is one of the state’s five constitutional officers and serves as the third-highest office in Indiana state government. The position is elected statewide every four years, and plays an important role in both our democratic process and our state’s economy.

The Secretary of State oversees four major areas of responsibility:

Elections:

Serving as Indiana’s chief election officer and working with county clerks and the Election Division to administer elections and certify results.

Business Services

Registering businesses operating in Indiana and maintaining official business filings and records.

Securities

Protecting Hoosier investors by enforcing state securities laws and regulating investment activity.

Dealer Services

Regulating automobile and motor vehicle dealerships across the state.

While the office performs many important administrative and regulatory duties, the most visible responsibility is overseeing Indiana’s elections and helping ensure they are conducted fairly and transparently.

Safeguarding Indiana’s Elections

Greg’s Perspective

The most important responsibility of Indiana’s Secretary of State is overseeing our elections. Hoosiers deserve confidence that elections are administered fairly, professionally, and without partisan influence.

As Secretary of State, Greg will make a clear commitment: he will not endorse, donate to, or raise money for candidates whose elections his office oversees.

Many voters are surprised to learn that the Secretary of State is currently allowed to campaign for candidates whose elections they help administer. That’s wrong.

Greg believes the person responsible for overseeing elections should act with the highest level of independence and neutrality. He will ensure Hoosiers can trust that elections are being administered fairly, without political favoritism.

A Statewide Voter Guide for Every Hoosier

Greg’s Perspective

Voting should be simple, clear, and accessible. Yet many voters arrive at the polls unsure about what offices are on the ballot or what those positions actually do.

Greg will work to create Indiana’s first statewide voter guide, similar to those already used successfully in other states.

The guide would:

  • Explain the responsibilities of each office on the ballot
  • Provide neutral information about candidates
  • Help voters better understand the choices they are making

The guide will also include a sample ballot, allowing voters to review their choices ahead of time and bring their marked sample to the polls. This helps voters move through the voting process faster and reduces long lines on Election Day.

Providing clear information empowers voters, improves participation, and strengthens democracy.

Expanding Opportunities for Independent Leadership

Too many Hoosiers feel that neither political party fully represents them. When good leaders feel shut out of the political process, voters lose out on the opportunity to support strong candidates.

Greg believes Indiana should encourage more choices and more competition in our elections.

His campaign is about more than one race. Indiana law allows an independent Secretary of State candidate to unlock ballot access for others if a certain threshold is reached on Election Day. This will create pathway for additional candidates to compete and gives voters more meaningful choices in future elections. Learn more about how ballot access works in Indiana here.

More choices in our elections lead to greater accountability from those who hold office.

When candidates must earn the trust of voters in a truly competitive environment, government works better and leaders are more responsive to the people they serve.
